We’ve been telling everyone — through blogs, webinars, and social posts — how to use GEO to win visibility inside AI-generated answers. But we didn’t want to just talk about it. We wanted to show you, practically, how we use our own product to do GEO at Writesonic.

The outcome? With only four new citations, Writesonic is now mentioned in 1,000+ AI answers across AI platforms. No new content creation and no keyword stuffing.

In this article, we’ll show you exactly how we did it step by step, so you can follow the same playbook and get your brand seen, too.

The Problem

Our goal was simple: Get Writesonic mentioned in more AI-generated answers.

When we reviewed some AI-generated answers for key prompts, we spotted some answers where competitors were consistently cited, while Writesonic wasn’t mentioned, even if the prompt was completely relevant to us.

Here’s what we discovered:

  • It wasn’t about relevance. Writesonic matched the intent of those prompts, but the sources AI cited simply didn’t include us.
  • AI was amplifying competitor coverage. Because competitors were present in those sources, AI answers kept surfacing their names, increasing their visibility.
  • This directly impacted discovery. Users asking AI for recommendations weren’t exposed to Writesonic at all, meaning we weren’t entering their consideration set at the decision-making moment.

Our solution was simple: get mentioned in those exact sources AI is citing, so Writesonic appears in those high-intent answers.

The Solution

Here’s what we did (and you can do that too!):

Step 1: Identify High-Impact Opportunities

We started with Writesonic’s Action Center, and checked which third-party sources were contributing the most number of answers that had:

  • Had multiple competitor mentions
  • Were frequently cited across generative engines
  • Were contextually relevant to our product

These were the exact pages AI was referring to when recommending competitors.

Step 2: Outreach

Next, we reached out to the owners of around 15 of those articles. Instead of sending generic link requests, we crafted value-driven pitches explaining why Writesonic deserved to be included.

The Action Center made this easy by providing pre-built outreach templates. We then personalized each message to show publishers how adding Writesonic improved the completeness of their content.

Step 3: Inclusion

Within a week, four of the five responded positively. We worked with them to ensure Writesonic was a natural and relevant addition to their blogs.

These updates went live quickly, giving AI a refreshed source to pull from when generating answers.

The Results

The outcome was fast and measurable:

  • 1,000+ new AI answers now mention Writesonic across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews.
  • Prompts that previously only mentioned competitors now include Writesonic as a recommended option.
  • We achieved this lift with just four new mentions of Writesonic on the relevant page. No extra content creation and no massive campaigns.
